Steel Seal Sponsored BTCC Audi powered to 2nd - 19/09/2011

Rob Austin in his Steel Seal supported Audi Qualified 3rd on the grid for the first round of the Dunlop MSA BTCC at Rockingham and was set for a good race. With the lights changing Rob quickly moved into 2nd place and was challenging TV personality and Chevrolet works driver Jason Plato for 1st position. Less than 2 laps in the race as Rob challenged again for the lead he was tapped from behind which sent the car into a violent spin. Getting the car straight Rob re-joined the race in 19th position and then set about cutting through the pack like a knife through hot butter, it was great fun to watch as Rob managed to pass his way to an incredible 7th Position.

The result in Race 1 meant a grid position of 7th for the next race which would mean for an interesting and exciting race however repairing the damage sustained from the first race meant that the car was not out of the garage in time and had to start from dead last at the very back of the grid. Now the race was going to be very exciting!
This time when the lights changed Rob quickly made progress and within a few corners Rob had gained 6 track positions so was now in 20th from 26th. Like a true racer with a drive anyone would be proud of he made it through the pack to 9th position to finish the race. The third race of a BTCC meeting the grid positions are drawn from a hat and this time luck was in the teams favour with Rob being drawn 2nd on the grid.

With rain threatening as the lights changed to go for the third and final race of the day Rob powered his www.SteelSeal.co.uk liveried Audi into the lead the adrenaline and excitement within the team garage and along the pit wall was truly incredible! With 'Go Rob' being shouted about 20 times a lap and with many fingers crossed but James Nash in the front wheel drive Vectra managed a very clever pass on Rob to take the lead. Typically rear wheel drive cars like the Audi are very good on their tyres compared to front wheel drive cars like the Vectra in front, so the team was confident that he would catch him towards the end of the race. As the end of the race approached with the rain holding off Rob began to catch the Vectra in front and having several looks and a couple of attempts at a pass the position could not be improved for Rob and with a tremendous amount of cheers the team took a very well earned 2nd at the flag.

Rob Austin, from Pershore, added: "Just one more lap was all I needed! It was a really good race with James who drove the perfect line. To finally get here, on the podium, is a great reward for everyone in the team who have worked so hard to develop the car….it's just beautiful to drive now. At the start of the season we were struggling, the cars were very late and we have had to learn an awful lot, so to finish 2nd is a tremendous achievement in year one. We are looking to challenge for the title next season but to do so we really need sponsors if anyone is interested please get in touch.”
